A Closer Look at China Drones

rc model drones

At a recent trade show, Chinese military officials showed off a range drones and other aerial vehicle models. The CH-805 training drone, concept CK-20 stealth-target drone and the SW-6 small "marsupial” drone are just a few of the examples. They are both designed to carry out reconnaissance tasks. SW-6 is also a prime candidate to the China drone "swarm", which involves hundreds small drones linked together.

Caihong drones debut

Chinese military officials deployed eight Wing Loong 2 medium-altitude, long-endurance drones to a mixed military/civilian airport in western China recently. This is the first major deployment of Chinese drones. The drones, which are very similar to the U.S. MQ-9 Reaper are potential future military assets. Here's a closer view of the Caihong 5.

China and Islamic countries have long admired each other and had successful win-win cooperation. Cooperation between the two countries has led to a new model for peaceful coexistence of cultures from different backgrounds. China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation has opened its first Middle East factory to manufacture state-owned drones such as the Caihong-4. The factory will produce the CH-4 and CH-5 drones and associated equipment and will enhance after-sales services to the Middle East.

Yilong/Wing Loong LE380 sensor turret

The Wing Loong I, which was the first variant in the Wing Loong series, flew its maiden flights in October 2007. The device can carry up four kilograms of payload and can reach speeds of 200km. The device's sensors and payload can be easily seen and targeted with a sensor turret under the nose.

The Wing Loong has a camera and sensor turret. Its wing-shaped body and three-bladed propeller enable it to fly at speeds of up to 280km per hour. It can also reach an altitude of up to five kilometers. Without refueling, the Yilong can complete its mission in 20 hour. The Yilong can transmit data from 200km away. It has a 600m take-off roll distance and an 800m landing roll distance.

These drones are being developed by Chinese companies since many years. Their latest version, the Wing Loong, is the first in a new family. The Wing Loong 1 has 200 kg payload capacity and a speed of 200 km/h. The Yilong/Wing Loong LE380 sensor is used to monitor the drones' surroundings. They can also carry weapons.
